Conch Cave Chronicles (2022)
I started out with a collection of conches that my grandfather had collected in
his years as a sailor in Iceland. Conches serve as shelter for crabs,
but what would shelter for the conch itself look like? This project is my attempt
to create an outer world that accurately reflects inner world as well as protecting it.
In this instance; the one of a sea conch.
The ceramic conches are originally sculpted with modelling clay,
which were used to make the plaster mold.
Ceramic clay was then poured into the mold and later glazed and fired in a kiln.
